Elvinas Jankevičius
Elvinas Jankevičius (born March 1, 1976 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian left-wing politician , Minister of Justice of Lithuania since 2018 , former Deputy Minister of the Interior and Mayor of Varėna .
Life
After graduating from secondary school in Vilnius in 1992, Elvinas Jankevičius studied economics at the University of Essen in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1997 to 1998 . In 2004 Jankevičius graduated from the Vilniaus pedagoginis universitetas with a degree in economics and sociology and in 2009 a degree in political science .
From 2000 to 2002 Jankevičius worked in the company UAB Tele2 . From 2004 to 2006 he was director of the UAB “Greito maitinimo tinklas” company. From 2008 to 2009 Jankevičius was advisor to the Minister at the Ministry of Health of Lithuania . From 2010 to 2011 he was deputy director of the Department in the Municipality of Vilnius City Municipality . In 2011 he took part in the local elections in the Varėna constituency and worked from 2011 to 2013 as the mayor of the Varėna district .
From 2013 to 2016 Jankevičius was Deputy Minister of the Interior of Lithuania , until 2014 Deputy Minister Dailis Barakauskas , from 2014 to May 30, 2016 of Minister Saulius Skvernelis and in 2016 of Minister Tomas Žilinskas in the Butkevičius cabinet . He resigned because of criticism of his work on migration. His successor is Justas Pankauskas . Jankevičius took part in the 2016 parliamentary elections in Lithuania as a candidate in the Paneriai constituency . From 2017 to 2018 he was an advisor to the Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis. Since May 15, 2018, he has been the Minister of Justice of Lithuania in the Skvernelis cabinet . He was appointed by Dalia Grybauskaitė (instead of the resigned Milda Vainiutė ).
Jankevičius is a member of Lietuvos socialdemokratų partija .
