Polish Orany ) is the core city and seat of the Rajongemeinde of the same name in southeast Lithuania in the Dzūkija region . It has 10,106 inhabitants and is part and seat of an administrative district ( seniūnija ) with 15,120 inhabitants within the Rajongemeinde with 28,955 inhabitants.
Varėna (German, outdated: Warnen ,history
The place arose on the railway line Warsaw - Vilnius - Saint Petersburg as part of Senoji Varėna (Old Varena). With its 1276 inhabitants, this now has the status of a separate village in the same administrative district.
The place (old) Varėna was first mentioned in 1413.
Since April 2000, Varėna has had a town partnership with Prenzlau in the Uckmark . The Varėna District Court existed until the Lithuanian judicial reform in 2018 .
