Rimantas Sinkevičius (born April 3, 1952 in Jūsiškės , Rajongemeinde Anykščiai ) is a Lithuanian social democratic politician . He has been a member of the Seimas since 2008 and Minister of Economics since July 2020. From 2012 to 2016 Sinkevičius was the Minister of Transport of Lithuania and until 2008 the manager of UAB “Koncernas Achemos grupė ”.

Education and career

After graduation in 1970 at the middle school Kavarskas in Anykščiai Sinkevičius graduated in 1975 Chemical Technology at the Polytechnic Institute in Kaunas and became an engineer . From 1980 he worked in the state company " Azotas " in Jonava and was a senior engineer and shift supervisor. From 2005 to 2008 he was the development director of UAB “Koncernas Achemos grupė ”.

From 1995 to 2003 and from 2007 to 2011 Rimantas Sinkevičius was a member of the council of the Jonava district . From 2000 to 2004 he was and since 2008 he has been a Seimas member, selected in the constituency of Jonava . He is a member of the Economic Committee. From 2012 to December 13, 2016, he was the Minister of Transport of Lithuania . From August 26 to September 7, 2014, he was Lithuania's Acting Minister of Energy . He has been the Minister of Economy of Lithuania since June 30, 2020 , appointed by President Gitanas Nausėda .

Rimantas Sinkevičius is a member of the LSDDP . He was a member of the LDDP and LSDP .

family

Rimantas Sinkevičius is married. His wife Ligita Sinkevičienė (* 1958) was a technologist from " AB Achema ".

His daughter Rūta Sinkevičiūtė-Jasilionė (* 1987) is a legal assistant in the commercial law firm "Valiūnas ir partneriai Ellex ".

His son Mindaugas Sinkevičius (* 1984) was mayor of Jonava from 2011 to 2016 and then briefly Minister of Economics in Lithuania .
