Bronius Markauskas

Bronius Markauskas (born November 5, 1960 in Trušeliai near Klaipėda ) is a Lithuanian left-wing politician , mayor of the Klaipėda Rajong municipality , from December 2016 to May 2018 the Minister of Agriculture of Lithuania and from 2016 to 2019 Seimas member.

Life

After graduating from secondary school, he completed his degree in electrical engineering at the Kauno politechnikos institutas in 1985 . From 1985 to 1990 he worked as an energy economist at AB "Aksa" in Kaunas . From 1990 to 2016 he was a farmer in Trušeliai near Klaipėda . From 2006 to 2011 he headed the Lithuanian Chamber of Agriculture ( Lietuvos Respublikos žemės ūkio rūmai ). From 2011 to 2016 he was Vice President of the Chamber. From 2000 to 2011 he was a member of the council of the Klaipėda Rajong Municipality . In 2006 he was elected Seimas . From December 13, 2016 to May 14, 2018, he was Minister in the Skvernelis Cabinet , the oldest member of this government. His successor was Giedrius Surplys (* 1976), former Vice Minister for the Interior. Markauskas was a member of the 12th Seimas until April 11, 2019 . He has been the mayor of the Klaipėda Rajong Municipality since mid-April 2019. He was selected in the 2019 local elections in Lithuania .

Markauskas is a member of the party Lietuvos valstiečių ir žaliųjų sąjunga (until 2005 Valstiečių ir Naujosios democijos partijų sąjunga ).

From 1999 Markauskas was the council chairman of the Lithuanian Milk Union ( Lietuvos pieno gamintojų asociacija ). He was the deputy chairman of the Milk Council at the Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania .

He is married. He and his wife Žydrė have daughters Skaistė, Joana and Justina and their son Astijus.
