Aurelijus Veryga (2017)

Aurelijus Veryga (born August 8, 1976 in Užventis , Kelmė district ) is a Lithuanian psychiatrist, professor and politician , Seimas member and Minister of Health of Lithuania since 2016 .

Life

After graduating from the Užventis Middle School (now Šatrijos Ragana -Gymnasium Užventis) near Kelmė , Aurelijus Veryga studied medicine at the Kauno medicinos akademija from 1994 to 2000 and became a doctor. In 2000 he and his colleagues initiated and founded the Help Center for Youth Narcology in Kaunas . In 2004 he completed his continuing education course ("Residentur") and became a doctor in psychiatry and earned a doctorate in biomedicine.

From 2009 he taught as a lecturer at the Kauno medicinos akademija of the Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universitetas and from 2015 as a professor at the Chair of Health Psychology . From 2004 he worked as a psychiatrist . In 2004 he and his colleagues established Nacionalinė tabako kontrolės koalicija and headed it as President. From 2004 he was a member of the advisory committee of ENYPAT ( European Networ Young People and Tobacco ).

In October 2016, he became a Seimas member as a candidate for Lietuvos valstiečių ir žaliųjų sąjunga in the Panemunė 18 constituency of Kaunas municipality . He has been the Minister of Health of Lithuania in the Skvernelis cabinet since December 13, 2016 .

family

Veryga is married. With his wife Rasa he has the son Tadas (* 2001) and the daughters Ieva (* 2005) and Vaiva (* 2008). Until 2016 he lived with his family in the village of Išorai , Jonava district .
