Vilius Šapoka (born December 14, 1978 in Barnaul , Siberia ) is a Lithuanian finance manager and politician , finance minister since 2016 , former head of the national securities authority VPK.

Life

From 1985 his family lived in Lithuania . After graduating from the Lieporiai Middle School in Šiauliai in 1997 , Vilius Šapoka completed his bachelor's degree in 2001 and his master's degree in economics at the Vilniaus universitetas Faculty of Economics in Vilnius . From 1999 to 2001 he was an inspector of cash operations, then head of the customer service department and financial analyst in the financial planning department at Bank AB “ Lietuvos taupomasis bankas ”. From 2002 to 2006 he worked as a senior specialist and then as deputy head of the financial institutions subdivision in the financial markets department at the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania .

From 2006 to 2007, Šapoka was a member of Vertybinių popierių komisija (VPK), from 2007 to 2009 deputy chairman and from 2009 to 2012 chairman. From 2012 to 2016 he was head of the financial services and markets supervision department at Lietuvos bankas . He has been Minister of Finance in the Skvernelis cabinet since December 13, 2016 . From December 2019 to June 30, 2020 he was acting minister for economy and innovation (his predecessor Virginijus Sinkevičius became EU commissioner).

Šapoka speaks English and Russian.

Šapoka is married and has two sons.
