Jānis Reirs (born September 23, 1961 in Riga ) is a Latvian politician of the Vienotība .

Life

Reirs studied economics at the University of Latvia .

For the Jaunais laiks party , he entered the Latvian parliament ( Saeima ) for the first time in the 2002 parliamentary elections . From January 2005 until his resignation in May 2006 he was a minister in the cabinet of Aigars Kalvītis . In the next elections he was able to defend his mandate or at least belonged to the Saeima as a replacement (since 2010 for the electoral alliance and the later party Vienotība ).

In the Straujuma II cabinet , Reirs succeeded Andris Vilks as Finance Minister of Latvia from November 5, 2014. In the Kučinski cabinet he was the country's social minister from February 2016 to January 2019. In the 2018 parliamentary elections , he was able to win a member of parliament for his party. Since 2019 he has been finance minister again in the government of his party colleague Krišjānis Kariņš .
