Alena Schillerová (born March 18, 1964 in Brno ) is a Czech lawyer and politician. She has been Minister of Finance of the Czech Republic since December 13, 2017.

Life

Schillerová graduated from the Faculty of Law at Masaryk University in Brno in 1988 . From 1997 to 2000 she studied administrative law there. She worked in the Brno-venkov District Tax Office and became the director of this office in 2006. From 2013 to 2014 she worked as a tax officer for the Jihomoravský kraj . In 2014 Schillerová was promoted to the Finance Directorate, and from January 1, 2016 to December 13, 2017, she held a leading position in the Ministry of Finance, responsible for tax issues.

After ANO's party leader Andrej Babiš was recalled as finance minister in May 2017, he favored Schillerová as his successor. Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka rejected this, however, as he considered Schillerová to be too close confidante of Babiš. Babiš and Sobotka finally agreed on Ivan Pilný . After ANO's victory in the 2017 House of Representatives election , President Miloš Zeman swore in Schillerová as Finance Minister of Babiš's first cabinet . She is the first woman in this post that she kept in Babiš's second cabinet .
