Eduard Janota

Eduard Janota (born March 13, 1952 in Opava , Czechoslovakia , † May 20, 2011 in Radovesice , Czech Republic ) was a Czech economist and politician. Between May 8, 2009 and July 13, 2010 he was Finance Minister in the Jan Fischer interim government .

Life

After studying at the VŠE Business School in Prague, from 1976 he worked as a specialist in the General Directorate of the Czech State Insurance. In 1978 he joined the Ministry of Finance, where he was appointed to the State Budget Department , of which he became director in 1992. From April 1999 he was Deputy Minister of Finance under Vlastimil Tlustý and Miroslav Kalousek . In May 2009 he became finance minister in the government of the non-party Jan Fischer .

From 1984 to 1989 Janota was a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia .

From April 2003 to January 2006 he was head of the supervisory board of the airline ČSA .

From August 2010 he was a member and consultant of the national economic advisory board of the Czech government (NERV) and was deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the energy supplier ČEZ .

He died at the age of 59 after a heart attack while playing a private tennis game.
