Ivan Pilný (born July 6, 1944 in Prague ) is a Czech businessman and politician . From May 24 to December 13, 2017, he was Minister of Finance in the Bohuslav Sobotka government .

Life

Pilný graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Technical University in Prague. After graduating in 1971, he worked in state-owned companies in the field of computer technology . From 1990 he worked as an entrepreneur. From 1992 to 1998 he was the first general director of Microsoft Česká republika . He then worked for telecommunications companies .

In the 2013 parliamentary elections, he ran as a non-party member for ANO 2011 on the first list for the Královéhradecký kraj and won a mandate. In 2014 he became a party member. After party leader Andrej Babiš was recalled from the office of finance minister in May 2017, he initially proposed Alena Schillerová and Richard Brabec as successors, who were rejected by Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka as Babiš's close confidante. Finally, as a compromise candidate, Pilný was appointed new Minister of Finance by President Miloš Zeman . After the end of the term of office, he withdrew from politics.
