Richard Brabec (born July 5, 1966 in Kladno ) is a Czech politician and Minister of the Environment of the Czech Republic since 2014.

Life

Brabec was born on July 5, 1966 in Kladno. After attending the Jan Amos Komenský grammar school in Nové Strašecí , he studied at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Charles University in Prague and graduated with a master's degree .

He was a board member of several companies, such as PRaK (1994–1996), KR Leasing (1997–1999) and TOROL (1998–2000). He was also general secretary of the Czech-Moravian commodity exchange in Kladno, chairman of the finance department of Unipetrol , commercial manager of Spolana and from 2005 to 2011 chairman of the board of Lovochemie . He was also a board member of the Czech Chemical Society .

Richard Brabec is married and has 2 sons and also has residences in Lovosice and Prague.

Political career

As a student, Brabec joined the Velvet Revolution and became a founding member of the citizens' forum in Kladno. In 1990 he ran for the Velvet Revolution in local elections and was elected to the Kladno City Council. After the dissolution of the Velvet Revolution in 1991, he joined the Democratic Citizens' Party . In the local elections in 1994 he defended his position on the city council. Because of the protests against the Democratic Citizens' Party in 1997, he resigned there. In the local elections in 1998 and 2002 he ran for the Freedom Union - Democratic Union (US-DEU), but failed in each case.

In the regional elections in 2000 he stood up for the US-DEU in the Quad coalition and was elected representative of the Central Bohemian Region . In 2004 he was unable to defend this post.

In 2012 he was chairman of the ANO 2011 political movement and has been a member ever since. From August 2012 to March 2013 he was their board member. He was also elected chairman of the regional association of the Aussiger region . At the end of 2015 he was re-elected as a board member with a clear majority of votes (87%).

In the 2013 parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic , he became the senior member of the Aussiger Region. On January 29, 2014, he was appointed Minister of Environment of the Czech Republic under Bohuslav Sobotka .

In 2014 he ran for the municipal elections for the city council of Litoměřice , but failed.
