The CEZ, as , České energetické závody (Czech energy plants, formerly Czechoslovak energetické závody - Czechoslovak-energy plants), is a publicly traded energy companies from the Czech Republic , based in Prague . The company was founded in 1992. The ČEZ Group is the largest energy company in Central and Eastern Europe and the largest electricity producer in the Czech Republic.

In 2014 the company generated sales of 200.657 billion crowns and had 26,255 employees as of December 31, 2015.

The company was founded in 1992 through privatization from the former state enterprise České energetické závody, sp. Today the Czech state still holds 69.78% of the shares. In 2003 the ČEZ Group was created from the majority of the power supply in the Czech Republic through merging with regional electrical energy companies.

In addition to electricity production and distribution, its business activities also include telecommunications, IT, nuclear research , planning, construction and maintenance of energy systems, raw material extraction and processing of energy by-products. The ČEZ Group is also one of the three largest heat manufacturers in the Czech Republic.

The ČEZ Group is an energy group consisting of 119 individual companies, including the parent company ČEZ, as (as of December 31, 2009). 54 of these are in the Czech Republic, 31 in the rest of Central and Western Europe and 34 in Southeastern Europe and Turkey.

ČEZ is listed in the WIG20 financial index of the Warsaw Stock Exchange and in the PX of the Prague Stock Exchange . The company is also listed in the Czech Traded Index and in the CEETX . As of December 31, 2009, the group had total assets of CZK 530,259 million , with a profit of CZK 51.9 billion.

ČEZ operates coal , water , wind and solar power plants in the Czech Republic , Bulgaria , Romania , Poland and Germany . Sometimes with local partners. The two Czech nuclear power plants Temelín and Dukovany are also managed by ČEZ. Together with a partner, a new nuclear power plant is to be built at the site of the existing Bohunice nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice, Slovakia . The company also controls a distribution network .

Foreign asset investments

The international expansion of the ČEZ Group started in January 2005 when, following its success in the tender for the privatization of three Bulgarian electricity supply companies, it took over their majority shares. Now the ČEZ group is turning its attention abroad to renewable sources of electricity, especially in the field of wind and water power.

In 2008, ČEZ was involved in major acquisitions, including the construction of the largest European wind farm in Romania. In 2009 the company acquired 50% of Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlegesellschaft mbH .
