The pumped storage plant Dlouhé Stráně is with a capacity of 2 x 325 MW, the largest pumped storage power plant in the Czech Republic . The operator is Energotis sro, a subsidiary of the Czech energy group ČEZ

Lower basin

It is located in the conservation area Jeseníky west of the Praděd above Kouty nad Desnou in the municipality Loučná nad Desnou . The lower basin is a dam in the valley of the Divoká Desná (Teß), the upper basin was built to the west of it on the Dlouhé Stráně ( Lange Leite ), a subsidiary peak of the Mravenečník ( anthill , 1343 m) and reaches a height of 1350 m at the dam crest ( 50 ° 4 ′ 29 "  N , 17 ° 9 ′ 33"  E ) . The dam height of the lower basin in the Teß valley is 824.7 m, it has a capacity of 3,405,000 m³.

The Dlouhé Stráně pumped storage plant is the hydropower plant with the highest head in the Czech Republic and has the largest pump turbine (reversible water turbine) in Europe . From the upper basin with a capacity of 2,580,000 m³, two pressure lines with a diameter of 3600 mm lead over a distance of 1500 m to the two Francis reversion turbines. The difference in height between the upper and lower basins is 525 m.

The plant was built in 1978 and has been in continuous operation since 1996. The special climatic conditions on the ridge of the Jeseníky Mountains, which had already led to the collapse of the Altvater Tower in 1959 , also had a negative impact on the upper basin in the form of leaks, so that in the summer of 2007 Walo Bertschinger AG was commissioned with the renovation and renewal of the sealing layer .

The facility, including the wind power plants and a solar power plant, can be viewed on a three-hour tour from April to August, with the exception of public holidays, after prior notification and against payment of an entrance fee.
