Clach a 'Charra
The Clach a 'Charra is an approximately 3.3 m high menhir ( English standing stone ) in Scotland . It stands on the north bank of the Dornoch Firth west of the village of Clashmore and about 340 m east of the Ospisdale bridge, directly on the A949 , which connects Dornoch and the A9 with Bonar Bridge in Sutherland .
The cuboid or obelisk-like stone has four sides and is damaged near the top. On the south side there is a hole about 1.5 m from the ground that is too deep to be a bowl . It appears to have served a functional purpose.
The stone, restored in 1968, fell over at some point - there is a repair line a few inches from the ground. The road boundary was built in a U shape around the stone. Local lore says that the stone marks the grave of a Danish warrior.
