AB Swedbank is a Swedish - Lithuanian credit institution , one of the largest banks in Lithuania , formerly AB Hansabankas .

history

In 1996 the "Hansabank" group founded the leasing company "Hansa lizingas" and in 1999 a "Hansabankas" branch in Vilnius. From 2000 to 2001 "Hansabank" privatized the Lithuanian bank AB "Lietuvos taupomasis bankas" (LTB). In 2001 "Hansabank" bought 90.73% of the shares in LTB. In 2001 LTB was reorganized and merged with "Hansabankas". The new bank was "Hansa-LTB". In 2003 it became "Hansabankas". Since autumn 2008 it has operated as "Swedbank". On March 17, 2009, AB bankas "Hansabankas" became AB "Swedbank".
