Dean Matthias Rosemann

Matthias Rosemann (born April 7, 1866 in Kerßenbrock near Melle ; † December 26, 1961 in Wietmarschen / Grafschaft Bentheim) was a Catholic clergyman.

Life

Matthias Rosemann was born on April 7, 1866 in Kerßenbrock and was baptized on the same day in the Church of St. Bartholomew in Wellingholzhausen . His parents were the colon Johann Bernhard Rosemann and his wife Maria Katharina, geb. Markmeyer. After successfully passing the Abitur in Meppen in 1887 , he studied theology in Münster and Würzburg , but also attended medical lectures on the side. As a "one year old" he took part in military service. In 1891 he entered the seminary in Fulda , as the seminary in Osnabrück was being rebuilt. On 12 March 1892 it consecrated Bishop Joseph Weyland in Fulda Cathedral priest. He was briefly vicar in Wietmarschen, then for eight years vicar in Herzlake. In 1900 he became a sub-rain of the seminary in Osnabrück. In 1901 he took over the parish in Bergedorf near Hamburg . On June 30, 1914, he became a pastor in Wietmarschen. He stayed there until his death.

Pastor Rosemann asked Bishop Berning for permission "to reopen the pilgrimage to the Madonna of Wietmarschen". The bishop immediately granted approval. The pilgrimages were ceremoniously opened on August 28, 1921. In 1922 Rosemann was appointed dean of the Catholics in the county of Bentheim . In 1927 the too small church was extended and rebuilt as a neo-Romanesque basilica. On April 27, 1939, Rosemann was appointed papal secret chamberlain. In 1952 he became an honorary clergyman .

Dean Rosemann was a pastor in the full sense of the word. In addition, he was able to show his fondness for the refinement of fruit trees and wild roses by hand and showed an interest in nursing. He made many house calls with his chaplain . On May 11, 1956, he received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. At 95 he was the oldest incumbent cleric in Germany.

Matthias-Rosemann-Straße in Wietmarschen was named after him.
