Joseph Weyland (born March 13, 1826 in Hadamar ; † January 11, 1894 in Fulda ) was Bishop of Fulda .

Life

After graduating from high school in Weilburg in 1844, Joseph Weyland studied at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Giessen and finished his studies at the Limburg seminary . In the Limburg Cathedral he was ordained a priest in 1848 by the Bishop of Limburg Peter Josef Blum (1808-1884) .

He was then chaplain in Oberursel , Rennerod and Höchst / M. and from January 1852 chaplain at the cathedral in Frankfurt / M. After years in Lorch , he became city pastor in 1862 and dean of Wiesbaden in 1863 . In 1882 he was appointed papal house prelate by Pope Leo XIII.

On November 4, 1887, the Fulda Cathedral Chapter elected him to succeed the Fulda Bishop Georg von Kopp , who had become Prince-Bishop of Breslau that same year. He was ordained bishop on January 25, 1888, by the Archbishop of Freiburg im Breisgau Johann Christian Roos (1826-1894).

In May 1888 the VKDSt Rhenania Marburg accepted him as an honorary member of the Cartell Association of Catholic German Student Associations .

His grave is in the Fulda Cathedral .
