Požela

Juras Požela (born April 12, 1982 in Vilnius , Lithuanian SSR , Soviet Union ; † October 16, 2016 ibid) was a Lithuanian social democratic politician , Seimas member and Minister of Health of Lithuania . He was also the former head of the Lietuvos socialdemokratinio jaunimo sąjunga .

Life

After graduating from the Antakalnis Middle School in 2000 , Juras Požela completed a bachelor's degree in communication and information sciences in 2004 and a master's degree in journalism at the Communication Faculty of Vilnius University in 2006 . In 2003 he studied at the Saxion Hogeschool Ijselland ( Netherlands ).

From 2000 Požela was a member of the Lietuvos socialdemokratų partija . From 2003 he was a board member and from 2011 head of Lietuvos socialdemokratinio jaunimo sąjunga as well as a member of ECOSY .

Until August 2010 he worked as a director in the youth affairs department in the Lithuanian Ministry of Social Affairs . From 2003 to 2012 Požela was a member of the Vilnius Municipality Council . From November 2012 he was a member of the Seimas . In 2012 Požela was a member of the Health Committee and from 2012 to 2013 a member of the European Committee. On March 10, 2016, Dalia Grybauskaitė appointed him Minister. From March 15, 2016, Požela was the successor of the lawyer Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė of Lithuania's Minister of Health in the Butkevičius cabinet .

In 2012 he married Požela Živilė Poželienė, a lawyer who worked as a paralegal from 2015 to 2016 . The two have a son (* 2014).

From August 16, 2016 Požela was treated for pancreatitis in Santariškė's clinics . The next day he was transferred to the Resuscitation and Intensive Care Unit in Santariškės . In the parliamentary elections in Lithuania in 2016 , Požela was elected as a list candidate of the LSDP for Seimas deputy on October 9, 2016 . He died seven days later in the clinic, which he had not left since August.

From 2015 he was deputy party chairman of the LSDP , deputy of Algirdas Butkevičius .
