Juras Karlowitsch Požela
Juras Karlowitsch Požela ( Russian Ю́рас Ка́рлович Поже́ла ; * December 5, 1925 in Moscow ; † November 20, 2014 in Vilnius ) was a Russian - Lithuanian physicist .
Life
Požela graduated from Lomonossow University in Moscow in 1951 with a degree in physics . In 1953 he joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union . 1956-1958 he worked as a research assistant at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology . In addition, he worked from 1956 in the Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (AN-LitSSR) . In 1963 he became director of this institute. In 1964 he received his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences and in 1966 he was appointed professor.
1967 Požela Director was of the Institute of Semiconductors of the AN-LitSSR and co editor of the Russian journal Physics and Technology of Semiconductor . In 1968 he became a member of the AN-LitSSR and in 1972 Vice-President of the AN-LitSSR. In 1984 he left the Institute for Semiconductors and became President of the AN-LitSSR (until 1992). In the same year he became a member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . In 1991 he became a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts . In 1992 he became President of the Lithuanian Department of the International Center for Science and Culture and Chief Scientist of the Semiconductor Institute.
Požela was an expert in semiconductor physics. One focus of his work was the plasma effects in semiconductors and the problem of "hot" electrons from an electric field .

- Lenin Prize (1978) for theoretical and experimental investigations into the generation and amplification of microwaves in avalanche ionization in semiconductors and the development of the new IMPATT diode

- State Prize of the USSR (1988) for basic research and organization of the serial production of semiconductor magnetic control devices
