Delfi (Internet portal)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Delfi is the name of several online news magazines in the Baltic States . The daily updated news portals of the same name are the most visited websites in Estonia , Latvia and Lithuania .

history

Delfi was founded in 1999 by the Estonian company MicroLink . In 2003 it was sold to the Norwegian company Findexa before it came into the possession of the Estonian media group Ekspress Grupp in 2007 for 54 million euros . The portal operates in the languages Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian under the domains delfi.ee, delfi.lv and delfi.lt.In addition, Russian editions appear in all three country versions (rus.delfi.ee, rus.delfi.lv and rus.delfi. lt). Since 2007 there is also a Ukrainian version (delfi.ua). It has its own offices in Moscow , Kaliningrad , Warsaw and Stockholm . Delfi also receives news from the Baltic News Service and other news agencies.

Comments from users

As one of the first Baltic portals, delfi made it possible for users to attach their own comments to the articles. The sometimes several thousand comments led to demands being made in parliaments to hold delfi liable for the comments made by anonymous users. In individual cases, real people were held responsible for their comments. One such case was a young woman who threatened to blow up the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest .
