Ezine is a city and a district in the northwestern Turkish province of Çanakkale . The city is located about 50 kilometers south of the provincial capital Çanakkale on the E-87 from Çanakkale to İzmir . The city is home to almost half of the district's population (2018: 44.5%).
district
The district is located in the west of the province on the Aegean Sea , it borders in the north on the central district Çanakkale, in the east on the district Bayramiç and in the south on the district Ayvacık . It encompasses a large part of the historical Troas landscape . To the east of the city flows the Karamenderes Çayı , the ancient Skamandros , which passes Troy further north and flows into the Dardanelles at Kumkale .
In addition to the district town, the district consists of another municipality ( Belediye ): Geyikli (3,697 inhabitants) and 49 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 287 inhabitants. Two of these villages have more than a thousand inhabitants: Mahmudiye (1,316) and Sarısöğüt (1,057 inh .). The population density (44) is below the provincial average (55 inhabitants per km²).
Worth seeing
About 16 kilometers west of Ezine near the Aegean coast is the ancient city of Alexandria Troas .
