The Karamenderes Çayı is a river in the province of Çanakkale in northwestern Turkey .
The Karamenderes River ( kara for "black" menderes for " meander ") was called in ancient Scamander (Latinized Scamander ). The alternative name Küçük Menderes ("Little Meander") is the current name of another river in Asia Minor.
The Karamenderes Çayı rises on the northern slope of the Kaz Dağları mountain range , also known as the Ida Mountains , in the south of the province. It initially flows along the northern flank in a westerly direction. Above the district town of Bayramiç , the river is dammed up by the Bayramiç dam . At Ezine the Karamenderes Çayı turns to the north. It cuts through a lower ridge with several loops of the river. At the place Pınarbaşı the river is dammed back by a weir. An irrigation channel branches off on the left and right bank of the river above the weir. The ancient city of Troy is located about 2 km east of the lower reaches of the Karamenderes Çayı. After a further 8 km, this flows into the Dardanelles Strait , at whose exit into the Aegean Sea . The Karamenderes Çayı has a length of 110 km. The catchment area covers 1960 km².
