Cristian Eduardo Zapata Valencia (born September 30, 1986 in Padilla ) is a Colombian football player . The defender is under contract with CFC Genoa and plays for the Colombian national team .
Career
societies
Zapata moved to the 2005/06 season from the Colombian club Deportivo Cali together with his national teammate Abel Aguilar , with whom he was in the squad of the U-20 World Cup, to Europe. Both signed in Italy with Serie A club Udinese Calcio . In Udine it was already used regularly in its first season. He made his debut on matchday 12, November 19, 2005, against FC Messina . He also scored his first goal in Serie A in the home game the following match day against Sampdoria Genoa . He made his international debut in the UEFA Cup against Levski Sofia on March 16, 2006. In October 2007, Zapata signed a new contract until June 2012. In preparation for the 2008/09 season he injured himself so badly that he was out for six months. So he was only available to the team again for the 19th matchday against Cagliari Calcio .
For the 2011/12 season Zapata moved to Spain for Villarreal CF ; he signed a contract that ran until 2016. The transfer fee was nine million euros. In the summer of 2012, Zapata was loaned to AC Milan for a year . AC Milan also secured a purchase option for Zapata. This was drawn after the season and Zapata, who signed a contract until June 30, 2016, firmly committed. Zapata scored his first league goal for Milan on matchday 16 of the 2013/2014 season in a 2-2 draw against AS Roma. In the summer of 2019, Zapata switched to CFC Genoa . So far he has played eleven games there in which he was able to score a goal.
National team
Before Zapata made his debut in the senior national team of Colombia , he had already played in the youth teams of his home country. In 2003 he was in the squad of the team that advanced to the semi-finals at the U-17 World Cup in Finland. In the game for third place, she lost to Argentina on penalties. In this competition, the defender was used in the preliminary round match against Mexico and in the semi-finals when they were eliminated by Brazil.

Zapata was also nominated for the Copa América 2015 and was used in the three group matches as well as in the quarter-finals against Argentina , when Colombia were eliminated on penalties .
Zapata was also nominated for the Copa América Centenario 2016 . In the first game against the United States , Zapata scored the 1-0 (final score: 2-0) and was named "Player of the Game". The goal was his first goal for the selection of Colombia after 41 international games without a goal, the tournament closed the team with a 1-0 victory over the USA in third place.
He was part of the Colombian squad at the 2018 World Cup in Brazil . He came to a use and retired with the team in the round of 16 against England on penalties.
