Later in 1995, Bakkal moved to Uzunköprüspor in Edirne Province .

Trainer

Mesut Bakkal was assistant coach at Denizlispor , MKE Ankaragücü and Gençlerbirliği Ankara from 1998 to 2005 and assisted Ersun Yanal in these clubs . After Yanal was appointed Turkish national coach in 2004, Bakkal Yanal also followed here and worked here as an assistant coach until summer 2005.

At all three clubs where he was assistant coach before, he later also became head coach. It was followed by Gaziantepspor , Manisaspor , Sivasspor and finally Samsunspor .

His greatest success as a coach at the time was his entry into the Turkish Cup final with Gençlerbirliği Ankara in the 2007/08 season . They lost the final on penalties against Kayserispor 10:11. He could not save Samsunspor from relegation in the 2011/12 season . As a consequence, Bakkal resigned as trainer from Samsunspor.

On November 5th, 2012 Bakkal took over the team from Kardemir Karabükspor . He succeeded Michael Skibbe . Bakkal quickly led Karabükspor to the top half of the table and ensured that the specialist press became aware of Karabükspor with surprise wins against Galatasaray Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Trabzonspor . Towards the end of the season, the team was unable to repeat its performance. As a result, you slide into the relegation zone again. After these developments, Bakkal was dismissed from the club's management.

Since December 16, 2013 Bakkal has been the head coach at Torku Konyaspor . At the end of October 2014, he left this association again by mutual agreement.

In February 2015 he took over Gençlerbirliği Ankara for the third time in his career and replaced the sacked İrfan Buz . Bakkal achieved the upswing he had hoped for with his new employer. The team under Bakkal's leadership quickly moved away from the defensive region and secured relegation a few weeks before the end of the season. After the 1: 2 home defeat by Mersin İdman Yurdu , club president İlhan Cavcav publicly criticized Bakkal during a press conference and was faced with wrong decisions in the line-up. On the following day, May 23, 2015, Bakkal announced his resignation.

In the 2015/16 season, Bakkal took over the southern Turkish first division club Mersin İdman Yurdu . Here he signed a one-year contract with an option for another year. Bakkal resigned on September 18, 2015.

In February 2016 Bakkal took over the relegation-threatened first division club Sivasspor and thus looked after this club for the second time in his career. With this club, he kept the chance of relegation until the last day of play and missed it on the last day of the game. After relegation and his contract expired Bakkal left this club again. At the end of September 2016 he was hired again as head coach at Sivasspor and worked with this attitude for the first time in his career in the TFF 1st Lig . He resigned from his position in March 2017.
