İsmail Ertekin (born January 1, 1959 in Bursa ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.
Player career
Ertekin started club football in 1975 in the youth of Bursaspor . Three years later he was involved in the professional squad and made his professional debut on September 2, 1978 during a league game against Fenerbahçe Istanbul . In his second season, the 1979/80 season , his club finished the league in 4th place in the table and thus achieved the best first division placement in the club's history. Ertekin only played three league games this season. The following season he was used in 10 league games. After he failed to make a breakthrough for Bursaspor in four years, he left the club in the summer of 1982 for the second division side Kütahyaspor .
After he had been active for one and a half seasons for Kütahyaspor, he moved back to the 1st Lig and was hired at Boluspor . For this club, he was only used twice in the second half of the league, during which he completed five cup matches for his new club. In the 1984/85 season he came to regular assignments. Nevertheless, he left Boluspor in the summer of 1985 and switched to third division club Sönmez Filamentspor . With this club he finished the Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi 1985/86 as a champion and rose to the 2nd Lig . After another year for Filament SK and then two seasons for Bozüyükspor , he ended his playing career in the summer of 1989.
Coaching career
Ertekin began his coaching career in 1992 as a youth coach at Bursaspor . After two years in various positions, he took over the position of assistant coach at the fourth division club Bursa Merinosspor in November 1995 . A year later he began to work in this role at Bursaspor and stayed until 1999. In 1998, after head coach Rasim Kara had left the club , he took over the team for four interim games. After working at Bursaspor, he worked at Adanaspor from 1999 and assisted Nenad Bijedić , with whom he had previously also worked at Bursaspor.
In 2001 he began to work as head coach for the first time in his career and looked after a club in his home province of Bursa with the fourth division club Oyak Renault SK . He looked after this club until spring 2004 and took over the rest of the 2003/04 season as assistant coach at Bursaspor and again assisted Nenad Bijedić. He then worked for various teams in the TFF 3rd Lig and the TFF 2nd Lig .
In the spring he took over the fourth division bandırmaspor . He led this club to the championship in the 2009/10 season and thus to promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig . After another year at this club, he left it and worked for Oyak Renault SK in the 2011/12 season .
In mid-December 2012 he was introduced as head coach at the third division Balıkesirspor . After a short time he took the lead with this club and ended the season as champion of the second division season 2012/13 . As a result of this success, he and his team rose to the Süper Lig . After the 1: 3 home defeat against the direct relegation competitor Sivasspor on matchday 10, Ertekin resigned from his position.
After his departure from Balıkesirspor Ertekin stayed about three months without coaching and took over the third division Kocaeli Birlikspor for the second half of the 2014/15 season . At the end of the season he left the club prematurely due to differences of opinion. In February 2016 he took over the third division Bandırmaspor for the second time in his coaching career. He had already trained this club in the years 2009-2011 and helped him to rise to the TFF 2nd Lig. This time he led the club to the play-off victory of this league in the summer of 2016 and thus to promotion to the TFF 1st Lig. In November 2016, he left this club.
