Cihat Arslan (born February 9, 1970 in Gömeç , Balıkesir ) is a former Turkish soccer player and today's soccer coach.

Player career

society

Arslan started with club football in the youth of his home club Gömeçspor and then moved to the youth of Ayvalıkgücü . Here the talent hunters of the then first division club Karşıyaka SK noticed him and signed him as a professional player. In his first season he sat on the bench and only played two top division games. Since his club missed relegation in the summer of 1991, they played the following season in the TFF 1st Lig . Here Arslan immediately fought for a regular place and was called up for the first time in the Turkish U-21 national team. The 1991/92 season ended Arslan with his team as champions of the TFF 1. Lig and thus managed to get promoted again. Furthermore, they qualified for the Balkan Cup . Arslan played one season in the Süper Lig for his club and became one of the league's shooting stars.

So he switched to the traditional Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul . He later played for Eskişehirspor , Denizlispor , Yozgatspor , Kocaelispor , Kayserispor , Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor and Kasımpaşa Istanbul .

National team

During his time at Karşıyaka SK , Arslan played three times for the Turkish U-21 national team .

Coaching career

After Werner Lorant's dismissal at Kasımpaşa on December 3, 2007, Arslan took over as an active player, the post of coach and became player-coach. However, Kasımpaşa later presented Uğur Tütüneker as the new coach. After finishing his active football career, he briefly coached Kocaelispor .

For the season he took over the Istanbul third division club Eyüpspor and finished third in the table with his new club at the end of the season. In the subsequent play-offs he missed promotion to the TFF 1st Lig .

In the summer of 2011 he accepted the offer from the second division Boluspor and switched to the TFF 1. Lig. Here he managed a good start to the new season, but with the advancing season he fell short of expectations. In spring 2012, he terminated his contract by mutual agreement with the board of directors. He was replaced by Özcan Kızıltan .

In January 2012 he took over the coaching position of the Turkish second division team Göztepe Izmir , replacing the resigned Özcan Kızıltan . On April 24, 2012, Arslan resigned and was replaced by Hüseyin Kalpar on the same day .

On July 17, 2012, he replaced the resigned head coach Yücel İldiz at the second division Karşıyaka SK . Arslan was already active as a player for this club and is one of the most important players in the club's history. He finished ninth with his team at the end of the 2012/13 season. His contract was not renewed and ended on May 31, 2013.

On June 3, 2013 he became head coach at Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor . With this club, Arslan established himself at the top of the table relatively early and finished the league as autumn champions. On the 36th match day, two game days before the end of the season, he secured the league championship with Istanbul BB with a 4-0 away win against Şanlıurfaspor and thus a direct return to the Süper Lig . Despite this successful season, Istanbul BB decided against further cooperation with Arslan and did not extend his expired contract.

At the beginning of June 2014, Arslan was introduced as the new coach at the second division side Şanlıurfaspor . He signed a one-year contract with the Southeast Anatolians. In the spring of 2015 he resigned from his position.

At the end of April 2015 he was introduced as the new head coach of the first division club Balıkesirspor , the club of his home province Balıkesir , which is threatened by relegation .

After he could not save Balıkesirspor from relegation, he asked for his release to then be able to take over the first division club Akhisar Belediyespor for the 2015/15 season . At the beginning of September 2016, Arslan left Akhisar Belediyespor due to differences with the board of directors.

After his time at Akhisar, he worked briefly at Karşıyaka SK and Adanaspor . In September 2018, Arslan returned to Akhisarspor and trained him until February 2019.
