The Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadı (full name: İstanbul Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadı , also Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu , German  Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium ) is a football stadium in the Başakşehir district of the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul . The venue, which was inaugurated in 2014, is named after the Turkish football player and coach Fatih Terim , the most successful coach in Turkish football. The Istanbul Başakşehir football club welcomes its opponents to the games here.

history

Since the Istanbul Başakşehir club was founded in 1990, back then as Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor , home games have been played in various stadiums. Because of this homelessness, the first plans for a new stadium were submitted by the Arima Mimarlik architecture office in 2006. The plans envisaged a capacity of 22,500 visitors. With the promotion to the Süper Lig for the 2007/08 season , a stadium suitable for the first division was necessary. The club moved to the Ataturk Olympic Stadium , which is only around twelve kilometers southwest of the new arena.

In October 2006 the foundation stone for the future home of the İBFK was laid. After numerous changes and delays, it should take until 2013 before the construction work, after some preparatory work, could start in 2012. After about 16 months, the stadium was completed on an area of 162,000 square meters with three training fields. The construction costs were 60 percent higher than the original plans from 2006. In contrast to other modern stadiums, the floodlights are not mounted on the roof, but rather on four masts as before. In the pure football stadium, the stands in the north and south of the field do not run directly on the edge of the field, but are laid out in curves.

The stadium was opened on July 26, 2014 by then Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . At the event, the stadium's official name, İstanbul Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadı , was also revealed. The opening was followed by a celebrity soccer game between a white and an orange team. The game over two 15 minutes ended with a 9: 4 for the orange team with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Furnishing

The stadium has a seating capacity of 17,139 on the surrounding two-story stands. A total of 30 stadium boxes were set up. There are also 300 seats in the VIP grandstand. There is room for 314 journalists on the press rank. For the cold season, infrared heaters for the spectators are installed under the stadium roof .
