The Eryaman Stadyumu (or Eryaman Stadı , officially Ankara Eryaman Stadyumu ) is a football stadium in the Eryaman suburb of the Etimesgut district of the Turkish capital Ankara . The rival soccer clubs MKE Ankaragücü and Gençlerbirliği Ankara use the soccer arena for their home games. The stadium is owned by the Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Gençlik ve Spor Bakanlığı ( German  Ministry for Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey ). It offers 22,000 seats, 1880 of which are VIP and business seats (658 of which in 51 boxes ), 48 press seats and ten handicapped-accessible seats with the same number for companions.

history

The Eryaman Stadyumu is part of a stadium construction project by the Turkish government in which over 20 stadiums are to be built across the country. The Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadı was built in the 1930s. In 2014, local authorities promised to build two stadiums. A large stadium with 40,000 seats and one for 15,000 visitors. The smaller sports facility was to be built outside of the rapidly growing suburb of Eryaman. An Ankara metro line runs to the nearby Devlet Mahallesi Metro İstasyonu station . The construction was approved in 2015 and the groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 5, 2016 . The large facility was not implemented and the original 15,000 seats in the small sports facility were increased to 20,000 and ultimately to 22,000. When the planning started, no long-term tenant had been determined. From 2014 to 2015 there was speculation that Osmanlıspor FK could move into the arena. The club's color scheme could be seen on the rendered images. Osmanlıspor FK belonged to the mayor Melih Gökçek and was very unpopular with fans of the traditional clubs MKE and Gençlerbirliği. In 2017 he resigned and Osmanlıspor FK lost its most influential supporter. The club stayed in Osmanlı Stadı .

In 2018 the Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadı was demolished and the MKE and Gençlerbirliği were found as new tenants. The color scheme based on Osmanlıspor FK was replaced by a much cheaper, neutral facade network. The color of the plastic seats was unclear for a long time so as not to put a club at a disadvantage. The red and black of Gençlerbirliği Ankara can be found in the main stand. The three remaining tiers have seats in blue and yellow (MKE Ankaragücü). On the side of the main stand in the west, the stadium has a height of 22 meters. The total built-up area is over 37,700 , including the main building with four levels in the west stand. The construction project extends over 6.4 hectares . This includes a new main street in addition to the subway line. The stadium area slopes down from west to east. The architects took advantage of this and had a space built with a parking area that merges into the entrance area of the stadium. The fans who come from the north and east reach the stadium via large stairs. Fencing was dispensed with and the turnstile systems are located below the actual facade. In 2015, the construction costs according to the contract were TRY 67.5 million . Two years later the total had increased to TRY 80 million. However, this will not have been the final price, as the work from the end of 2017 to the end of 2018 in particular was extremely slow.

On January 21, 2019, the pairing was announced for the opening game. The match on the 19th match day of the Süper Lig on January 28th between MKE Ankaragücü and Alanyaspor was selected for this. This was announced by the Minister for Youth and Sport, Mehmet Kasapoğlu , during a visit. The new home side lost 0-2 in front of 13,270 spectators.
