Holding cell

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The detention cell ( Swiss : detention room ) is a room in which the arrest is carried out, provided that it is not house arrest . These exist in the military , the police and in prisons - with the latter, as it were, as a prison within a prison . Overall, the cell is mostly empty, at least during the day. A bed comes in to sleep and is removed again in the morning. The decisive factor here is that the detention cell forces the inmates to be largely inactive. That is precisely the meaning of this punishment , which is based on the hope that the detainee will use the forced inactivity to reflect and see the injustice of the action for which he was locked up.

In the previous academic jurisdiction , students or high school students were temporarily deprived of their liberty for possible misconduct. The detention is the function of a prison cell . But since the times of deprivation of liberty for the purpose of punishment were limited, it was more like a detention cell in its practical application. Nevertheless, they sometimes had to stay in this cell for several weeks, so that some color students had a lot of time to artistically immortalize themselves on the walls in the detention center. Not only painted or drawn things, but also engravings of remarkable quality were created. The university prison in Marburg gives an impression of this .
