Cihan Haber Ajansı (CİHAN) or Cihan News Agency ( Turkish "Cihan" for world ) was a Turkish news agency in Istanbul . It was banned in the course of measures following the attempted coup in 2016 .

Cihan was founded in 1994 and, like the daily Zaman , belonged to the Feza Gazetecilik A. Ş. in Turkey, which belonged to the Gülen movement .

The news agency supplied text and photos to various Turkish newspapers such as Today's Zaman , Star , Yeni Safak and Bugün .

On average, the agency produced 450 text reports, 400 photos, 180 photo reports and 85 television reports every day.

It offered reports in Turkish, English and Arabic. Cihan has six offices in Turkey (Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Antalya, Erzurum) and correspondents in 39 countries.

The director, Abdulhamit Bilici , is also a regular columnist on foreign affairs for the Zaman and Today's Zaman newspapers .

His predecessor Bülent Korucu became editor-in-chief of Aksiyon magazine in 2008 , which is also part of the Feza Gazetecilik group.

Cihan Haber Ajansı (CİHAN) was one of the five most famous news agencies in Turkey, along with Anadolu Ajansı (AA), Doğan Haber Ajansı (DHA), İhlas Haber Ajansı (İHA) and Anka Haber Ajansı.

At the beginning of March 2016, the company was placed under mandatory state supervision. According to Cihan, an Istanbul court appointed the same “trustees” as Zaman's at the same time.
