Career
societies
FC Bayern Munich
Ekici began playing football at the age of five in the youth team of the Munich suburb SpVgg Unterhaching and moved to the youth department of FC Bayern Munich just under a year and a half later . As an A-youth , he completed nine games for the second team in the third-rate Regionalliga Süd towards the end of the 2007/08 season . He played his first game five days before his 18th birthday. On March 20, 2008 he was in the starting line-up, which played 1-1 at home against Elversberg .
In the pre-season 2008/09 season of the first division team Ekici came under coach Jürgen Klinsmann on July 23, 2008 in the then unofficial Supercup in the 71st minute for Hamit Altıntop and scored two minutes later in the 1-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund .
For the second team he was in the newly created third division for the 2008/09 season in 32 of 38 games and scored six goals. On the first matchday on July 27, 2008, he scored a goal in a 2-1 home game against 1. FC Union Berlin with the interim 2-0 in the 76th minute; He prepared the 1-0 through Thomas Müller in the 49th minute.
During the winter break of the 2009/10 season he took part in the first team's training camp in Dubai . On February 1, 2010, FC Bayern announced that Ekici had signed a professional contract until June 30, 2011 and would train with the first team under coach Louis van Gaal . A previously discussed move to 1. FC Cologne was thus broken . However, he initially continued to play for the second team and did not play a competitive game for the Bundesliga team in the second half of the season.
1. FC Nuremberg
Ekici moved to 1. FC Nürnberg for one season on July 2, 2010 via a loan deal . He made his debut for the “Club” on August 15, 2010 in the first main round of the DFB-Pokal competition, in which he also scored his first goal in the 2-0 away win over Eintracht Trier . His Bundesliga debut took place on August 21, 2010 (1st matchday) in the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach , and he scored his first Bundesliga goal on October 16, 2010 (8th matchday) in a 2: 3 defeat in the away game against FC St. Pauli .
Ekici was a key player in midfield, responsible for corners and free kicks. He completed 32 Bundesliga games in the season, in which he scored three goals and put on nine more.
SV Werder Bremen
For the 2011/12 season Ekici moved prematurely to SV Werder Bremen , who provided him with a contract valid until June 30, 2015; his contract with Bayern Munich was valid until June 30, 2012. Ekici's first season with Bremen, which should have transferred five million euros transfer fee for him, was unsatisfactory, both for him personally and for the club that qualified for the Missed Europa League . After he was hardly set up under coach Robin Dutt , he moved to the Turkish first division club Trabzonspor in August 2014 .
Trabzonspor
Ekici made his debut for Trabzonspor on August 31, 2014 (1st matchday) in a goalless draw in the away game against Kayseri Erciyesspor before he was substituted for Serdar Gürler in the 84th minute . Here he quickly established himself as a top performer in his first season and was particularly noticeable for his many free-kick goals. In the winter of 2016/17 , Ekici wanted to move to Fenerbahçe Istanbul six months before his contract expired, but Trabzonspor preferred a transfer to Beşiktaş Istanbul . As Ekici stuck to his plan, he was suspended in January 2017.
Fenerbahçe
Ekici moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the 2017/18 season.
National team
Mehmet Ekici has both German and Turkish citizenship . With the German national team he took part in the U-17 World Cup in 2007 in South Korea . He was only used in the last group game on August 26, 2007, when the German selection won 5-0 against Trinidad and Tobago . Before that, he played on July 20 and 28, 2007 in Giessen and Wangen, respectively, in the 3-1 defeat against the USA and in the 2-0 win over Togo .
For the German U-18 national team , he played a single game in which he scored two goals: on September 25, 2007, the U-18 team won 3-1 against Rwanda in Emmelshausen . His only game in the U-19 selection he completed on September 4, 2008 in the 1: 2 defeat against the selection of the Czech Republic in Český Dub .
On October 9, 2009 Ekici made his debut in the German U-20 national team in the 2-3 defeat in Solothurn against Switzerland . He also scored his first goal in his fourth game on March 3, 2010 in a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in Berlin .
For the European Championship qualifiers of the U-21 national team against the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland in early September 2010, he was appointed to the squad for the first time by national coach Rainer Adrion . On September 3, 2010 he made his debut in the qualifying game for the U-21 European Championship 2011 in a 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic with a substitution in the 68th minute for Patrick Herrmann .
On October 29, 2010 it was announced that Ekici will play for the Turkish national team in the future . He made his debut on November 17, 2010 in a friendly against the Netherlands in Amsterdam .
