Transgenial CSD

The Transgeniale CSD 2006 on the Oberbaum Bridge

The Transgeniale CSD was a demonstration by queer people in Berlin-Kreuzberg and the surrounding districts of Berlin that took place annually on the 4th Saturday of June from 1998 to 2013 . It saw itself as a political alternative to the commercial Christopher Street Day , with which it usually takes place in Berlin at the same time.

From 2014 to 2016, alternative Berlin CSD follow- up demonstrations were organized with the Kreuzberger CSD . Like the Transgeniale CSD, they were directed against homophobia , transphobia , against the discrimination of gays , lesbians , bisexuals , trans * people and intersex people, and against heteronormativity and racism . In addition, they addressed social phenomena such as gentrification , deportation and precarious working conditions.

history

At the beginning of 1997, Landowsky , who was chairman of the Berlin CDU parliamentary group at the time, made a speech in front of the Berlin House of Representatives who spoke disparagingly about developments in Berlin.

“It's just the case that where there is rubbish there are rats, and where there is neglect, there is rabble. That has to be eliminated in this city. "

- Klaus-Rüdiger Landowsky: Speech to the Berlin House of Representatives on February 27, 1997

In protest against this statement, the “rat carriage” was created, on which the occupants symbolically rummaged in the dirt and threw it at other parade participants. The car of the SO 36 , which protested against the newly introduced “car fees” of the “great CSD” and the associated commercialization of the event, together with the “rat car” formed the rear part of the demonstration. When cars parked in the course of the demonstration were hit by splashes of dirt from the “rat car”, the police split off the rear part of the demonstration and confiscated the “rat car”. As a reaction to the police action, which was perceived as excessive and the toleration of the event management, a spontaneous demonstration march to Kreuzberg formed. In the following year the “Kreuzberger CSD” took place for the first time as an additional offer and in cooperation with the “big CSD”, whereby some cars initially took part in the “big CSD” and then continued the demonstration in Kreuzberg. In the following years, however, the communication and cooperation between the two events steadily decreased.

2002

The CSD on June 22nd, 2002 began at 4 pm at Oranienplatz and led under the motto “Be terrible and multiply!” With a particularly short route to Heinrichplatz . The twelve demands of the demonstration were formulated with allusion to the Ten Commandments and were directed against war, deportation, racism, protection of marriage, exclusion, genital mutilation and for a minimum income, as well as the promotion of cultural projects.

Transgenial CSD 2003

2003

In 2003, already at the starting point at Hermannplatz, there were arguments and tussles with an anti-German group allegedly founded to provoke the CSD called Queer for Israel , after they unfurled three Israeli flags and one US American flag and were asked to do so by the organizers to be removed, as national flags were undesirable.

2004

The Transgeniale CSD on June 26, 2004 was more popular than in previous years and was characterized by various art events. During a stopover at Hermannplatz, for example, activists distributed products labeled as “gifts for Karstadt” on the shelves to protest against neoliberalization and precarious working conditions.

2005

Under the motto “No norm for nobody”, the demonstration in 2005 led from Hermannplatz via the Kottbusser Tor to Heinrichplatz in the rain. Due to a lack of organizational participation, the event was initially proclaimed as the last Transgenialer CSD. The main focus was on heteronormativity .

2006

For the first time, the Transgeniale CSD did not take place at the same time as the big CSD in 2006, as it was relocated due to the 2006 World Cup . The Transgeniale CSD nevertheless started on June 24th at 2 pm at Frankfurter Tor , as it saw itself “consciously as a counterpoint to the World Cup, screaming hordes of men and nationalism” and moved over the Oberbaumbrücke to Kreuzberg. In addition to homosexual issues, precarious working conditions at Lidl as well as right-wing extremism, urban restructuring plans and gentrification were also discussed.

2007

In 2007, it came at the 10th Trans genius CSD under the motto "10 years for being against" the first time to clashes with the police, as two people were taken into custody after a protester a bra hung around the face, around the hood ban to parody. The accompanying hundred 23 had already been accused of escalation-promoting behavior during the move. The organizers then submitted a complaint to the supervision of the authorities. A lawsuit resulted in an acquittal.

2008

In 2008, a similar event took place just a few weeks before the Transgenial CSD. After several people, allegedly by supporters of the right-wing extremist Turkish party Gray Wolves , were physically attacked after a drag event in SO36 , around 2,000 people gathered on the evening of the following day for a spontaneous demonstration in Kreuzberg to oppose the homophobic attacks demonstrate.

On June 28, 2008 around 3,000 people gathered under the motto “The fat booty of madness - against displacement; against discrimination; against commercial shit ”for the transgenial CSD.

Transgenial CSD 2009

2009

The Transgeniale CSD 2009 took place under the motto “Tolerance? No thanks! Glitter without borders! ”, Which expresses criticism of the slogans of tolerance of the mainstream, which, in the opinion of the organizers, are an expression of a discriminatory and exclusive attitude. On the sidelines of the demonstration, there was a dispute with the rapper Bushido and his companions at the Schlesisches Tor underground station after they attacked demonstrators with homophobic statements. With around 2,000 participants, the demonstration was less well attended than in previous years.

2010

The Transgeniale CSD 2010 took place on June 26th under the motto Great Times - Massive Queer Resistance with around 5,000 participants, which was also due to the temporal equalization of the "big" Christopher Street Day and the racism controversy triggered by Judith Butler a week earlier is returned. For the first time, the golden piece of shit on the ribbon was awarded, which went to Thilo Sarrazin . At the place of the opening rally there were disturbances by homophobic passers-by.

2011

In 2011, the transgenious CSD took place on June 25th under the motto Queer is not tamable, not countable with around 1,500 participants in Kreuzberg.

2012

In 2012 the tCSD took place on June 23rd under the motto Let it glitter ... anti-fascist - queer feminist - anti-racist - in solidarity .

2013

Found in 2013 which is now "t * CSD" said parade under the slogan Solidarity Queertopia fight on June 22 with about almost 1,500 participants without otherwise subsequent street party in the Orange Street instead. The white dominated organizational structure of the transgenic CSD was thus problematized.

2014

After there was no organizational team for the transgenious CSD in 2014, a new team, with the support of 3 (partly) queer event centers, organized the “A CSD in Kreuzberg” under the motto “Oranienstrasse is not a one-way street. Solidarity either. ”The demo ran on June 21, the short distance of the first Kreuzberg CSD from Oranienplatz directly to Heinrichplatz.

2015

In 2015 the demo took place on June 27th as “Kreuzberger CSD” with the motto “No pink camouflage!”. The demo moved with around 4,000 participants from Oranienplatz through Kreuzberg to Heinrichplatz.

2016

The demo was run in 2016 under the name X * CSD and held on June 25th. The new name is intended to show that the organizers do not see the demo as "Kreuzberg folklore", but as a demonstration with current political aspirations, made by and for people from many countries. According to information from parts of the organization group, there were sexual assaults in Oranienstrasse and two anti-Semitic speeches, one of which was from Wagenplatz Kanal in the BDS campaign . As a result, there were no organizers for 2017 and 2018.

2019

On June 28, 2019, exactly 50 years after the Stonewall uprising , the tradition of an alternative or anti-commercial CSD in Berlin was continued with the “Libertarian CSD”. The demo, with over 1000 participants, went over Nollendorfplatz (memorial to gay and lesbian victims of National Socialism), over Kurfürstendamm, past the memorial plaque for HIV deaths, past KaDeWe and to Motzstraße.

A “Radical Queer March” with 1,500 participants in Kreuzberg / Friedrichshain on July 27th was disrupted by a BDS group and terminated prematurely.

While the commercial CSD was canceled early due to the restrictions for major events in times of the COVID-19 pandemic and was completely relocated to the Internet, there was an alternative CSD with distance rules on the street on Saturday, June 27th. A second “Anarchist Queer Pride Rally: Stonewall was a riot - we will not be quiet” was a radical, left-wing demo that then joined the Black Lives Matter at the Großer Stern. Another "Anarchist Christopher Street Day" took place on July 25th, the route of which led through Neukölln. Some of the organizers have been involved in previous tCSDs.

organization

The alternative Berlin CSD was organized on a grassroots basis in open plenaries. Political parties, national symbols and commercial corporations were undesirable. It has even been discussed several times whether the only flag to be allowed is the pink queer flag, which shows a black star with a silver high-heeled shoe. Traditionally, the demonstration ends with a street festival on Heinrichplatz .

That is why the traditional street festival at the end of the TCSD was canceled this year. There is nothing to celebrate because of the increased racist attacks in Berlin, according to the organizers.
