Moubarak "Mbark" Boussoufa ( Arabic مبارك بوصوفة, DMG Mubārak Būṣūfa ; * August 15, 1984 in Amsterdam ) is a Moroccan football player .
Club career
Via Ajax and Chelsea to Belgium
Boussoufa played from 1994 for the Dutch clubs ASV Middenmeer and ASV Fortius . In 1996 he joined the Ajax Amsterdam Youth School . From there he moved to England in 2002 to join the Chelsea FC reserve . Two years later, Boussoufa went to Belgium to KAA Gent , where he was honored with four awards in 2006: In addition to Belgium and Morocco's footballer of the year, he was also Belgium's junior footballer and the best African player of the season.
In 2006 Boussoufa moved to RSC Anderlecht in 2006 . At the Belgian record champions he established himself in the starting lineup and became a top performer under coach Franky Vercauteren . He scored his first goal for the new club on September 30, 2006 in the 1: 4 defeat against KRC Genk with the goal to make it 1: 2. With eight goals and 13 assists, the Moroccan was ultimately involved in winning the championship. The following season he failed with his club in the third qualifying round of the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League against Turkish representatives Fenerbahçe Istanbul and then continued to play with the club in the UEFA Cup . There RSC Anderlecht were eliminated in the round of 16 against the German record champions FC Bayern Munich . In the league they were runner-up behind Standard Liège , who had only lost one of the 34 season games. Boussoufa scored five goals and put on ten more. Again he was eliminated with his club in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League 2008/09 , this time against the Belarusian club BATE Baryssau . In the first division , the champion was determined because of a tie in two playoffs between Standard Liège and RSC Anderlecht. After a 1: 1 in the first leg, Standard Liège decided the second game 1: 0 for themselves and defended his championship title. Boussoufa scored eleven goals and prepared 13 more during the season. He won the national cup with the team . In the final they won 3-2 against Boussoufa's former club KAA Gent. Just a few days after the finals, he extended his contract term until 2012.
In the 2009/10 season, RSC Anderlecht reached the newly created play-off round with a twelve point lead over Club Bruges . There Boussoufa's club started with half of the points won in the regular round. None of the ten playoff games were lost (seven wins, three draws) and RSC Anderlecht won the 30th championship in the club's history. Boussoufa contributed nine goals this season in the league and five more in the championship playoffs. After 2006 and 2009, he was awarded the Ebbenhouten Schoen for the best African football player in the first division for the third time . In the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League , his club was eliminated in the third qualifying round against Olympique Lyon and moved again to the UEFA Europa League . There the club lost in the round of 16 against Hamburger SV . In the following year, the Moroccan was able to lead the league again with Anderlecht. In the playoffs, however, the KRC Genk prevailed and secured his third championship. In the 2010/11 season, Boussoufa scored ten goals in 23 league games and provided 15 assists. In the UEFA Champions League 2010/11 he failed with his club in the qualification at the Serbian club FK Partizan Belgrade and in the subsequent UEFA Europa League 2010/11 in the round of 32 at Ajax Amsterdam.
Russia and return to Belgium
A few days after RSC Anderlecht was eliminated by Ajax Amsterdam, the Russian first division team Terek Grozny announced the transfer of the attacking midfielder on March 7, 2011. Three days later, the change failed and he went to league rivals Anzhi Makhachkala instead . This club was only taken over in January 2011 by the Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimow . Boussoufa was one of the first transfers the club made from the Republic of Dagestan with Kerimov's investments. The season in Russia had only just begun at the time of the change and was also the first after the switch to the usual model in UEFA. Boussoufa reached fifth place in the table with Anzhi Makhachkala. With this placement, the club qualified for the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League , in which they were one of three Russian clubs to reach the round of 16 and failed there against Newcastle United from England. In the Premjer League 2012/13 Anschi was third. After the club had signed new players for 50 million euros after the season, it was announced in August 2013 that the budget would be reduced. As a result, numerous players, including Boussoufa, left the club.
The Moroccan moved to league rivals Lokomotiv Moscow and was third in the Premjer League in 2013/14 . In the playoff games of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League , Boussoufa failed with Lokomotiv Moscow at the Cypriot club Apollon Limassol . Although they had only reached seventh place in the league, they qualified for an international competition by winning the national cup (3-1 after extra time against FK Kuban Krasnodar ). Boussoufa equalized in the final and then shot his team in the lead in extra time. In February 2016 he returned to his former club KAA Gent on loan.
In July 2016, he joined al-Jazira Club .
National team
Mbark Boussoufa had the choice between the Dutch and the Moroccan national team and ultimately chose the Moroccan team. On May 23, 2006 he played his first game against the USA . On February 9, 2011, he scored his first two international goals in a 3-0 win against Niger . He played with Morocco at the 2012 and 2017 Africa Cups . He was also in Morocco's squad for the 2018 World Cup . After a 2-2 draw against Spain and two 0-1 defeats against Portugal and Iran , Morocco was the last in Group B to be eliminated from the tournament. Boussouffa was used in all three games.
He was also part of the Moroccan national team at the Africa Cup in 2019 and played in all three group matches and in the round of 16 against Benin, which was only lost on penalties.
