Milan "Lane" Jovanović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Милан Јовановић ; born April 18, 1981 in Bajina Bašta , SFR Yugoslavia , today Serbia ) is a former Serbian football player .

Career

In the club

Milan Jovanović played in his youth with Kosmos in his hometown Bajina Bašta and with Budučnost Valjevo . At the age of 18, he moved to Vojvodina Novi Sad in 2000 and spent three years there. He then moved abroad and worked for Shakhtar Donetsk for one year and for Lokomotiv Moscow for two years . From the beginning of the 2006/07 season he played for Standard Liège and scored 14 goals in 29 games in his first season in the 1st division .

On July 8, 2010, he signed a three-year contract with Liverpool FC , which came into force from the 2010/11 season. Liverpool FC did not have to pay a transfer fee to Standard Liège. The offensive player made his Premier League debut on Matchday 1 against Arsenal when coach Roy Hodgson put him on the starting line-up. Until the 4th game day Jovanović remained in the starting line-up; In the following period he came only sporadically, so that he had only completed ten Premier League appearances by the end of the season.

In August 2011 Jovanović moved back to Belgium for RSC Anderlecht after he had not been able to prevail at Liverpool. The attacker received a two-year contract in Anderlecht. Immediately he became a top performer again. With two goals in qualifying for the group stage of the 2011/12 Europa League against Bursaspor, he helped his team move into the group games. In 2013 he ended his playing career here at the age of 32.

National team

After the good games in the Dress Standard Liège , Javier Clemente , who was in charge of the Serbian national team at the time , became aware of Jovanović. His debut in the national team was Jovanović on June 2, 2007. As a substitute in the match for the qualification for the 2008 European Championships in Helsinki against hosts Finland he came in the 60th minute for Marko Pantelić into the game, scoring in the 86th minute the gateway to 2-0 final result.

At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Jovanović scored the goal for the 1-0 final score against Germany in the second preliminary round match in Group D. After a cross on Zigić, he headed Jovanović. This scored the winning goal for Serbia from close range.
