Club career

Ayhan Akman began his professional career in the 1993/94 season wearing Inegölspor's shirt . A season later he moved to Gaziantepspor and made his debut on November 13, 1994 against Kayserispor . In just a short time he became a regular in midfield and was considered a great talent in Turkey. In the 1996/97 season he was banned for six months because of the illegal use of anabolic steroids . Beşiktaş Istanbul signed him in 1998 for a transfer fee of 8.5 million euros. Akman played three unsuccessful seasons and moved to city rivals Galatasaray Istanbul in the summer of 2001 . Ayhan Akman won his first Turkish championship in his first season at Galatasaray. Two more championships followed in 2006 and 2008.

After 19 years, Akman retired at the end of the 2011/12 season and became the Turkish champion for the last time.

National team

Ayhan Akman had been a Turkish national soccer player since 1998 . He played his first game for the national team on February 18, 1998 in a friendly against Israel. Coaching career

In February 2015 he took over the second division Karşıyaka SK as head coach and worked in this position for the first time. Due to unsuccessfulness, he resigned from his post after seven match days. Lig at Karşıyaka SK , he worked unofficially as head coach, while the official head coach of the association Rıza Tuyuran was given.

For the 2015/16 season he was hired as head coach at Istanbul third division club Sarıyer SK . At the end of November 2015, Akman's contract with Sarıyer was terminated. In the summer of 2016, the former midfielder became Jan Olde Riekerink's assistant coach at Galatasaray Istanbul . On December 18, 2017, head coach Igor Tudor and Akman were fired.
