Davor Vugrinec (born March 24, 1975 in Varaždin , SFR Yugoslavia , today Croatia ) is a Croatian football player .

Career

society

The attacking midfielder began his professional career at NK Varteks Varaždin when he moved from youth to professional squad for the 1992/1993 season. He played there for five years before moving to Trabzonspor in Turkey in 1997 . Three years later he moved to Italy to Lecce . At the beginning of 2003 he moved to Atalanta Bergamo before moving on to Catania Calcio in summer 2004 . A year later he returned home to HNK Rijeka . There he soon became one of the most important players and at the end of the 2005/2006 season with 15 first division clubs he was also the best goal scorer of the club, which was then the Croatian runner-up and cup winner. In June 2006 he moved to Dinamo Zagreb on a free transfer before joining local rivals NK Zagreb two years later . In the summer of 2010 he returned to his home club NK Varteks Varaždin. "Vuga", as everyone in Croatia calls him, switched from NK Varteks Varaždin to NK Slaven Belupo Koprivnica in January 2012 . On April 15, 2012 he scored his 127 goal in the 1st HNL and is the most successful goalscorer in the 1st HNL.

National team

Vugrinec was used in a total of 28 international matches for the Croatian national team from 1996 to 2006 , scoring seven goals. He made his international debut in April 1996, but would have to wait until October 1998 to be back in the Croatian national team. At that time, he scored a brace in his second international match in the European Championship qualifier against Malta . In 2000 he finally became a regular player in the Croatian national team. At that time, he also played seven World Cup qualifying matches for the team and scored one goal each in home games against Latvia and San Marino . In June 2002 he played two games for the Croatian national team at the World Cup in Japan . After this World Cup, he was only used in five international matches.
