Servet Çetin (born March 17, 1981 in Tuzluca , Iğdır Province ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.
Player career
In the club
Çetin began his professional career in 1999 with the Turkish second division club Kartalspor and moved to Göztepe Izmir after two years in 2001 . He completed 30 missions in the 2001/02 season and finished seventh with the team. In 2002 he was hired by Denizlispor and played 31 games during the season. 2003/04 Çetin moved after four games to Fenerbahçe Istanbul , where he was hardly used due to some injuries and completed only eight league games in the championship season. In the next season he was able to defend the title with Fenerbahçe. For the 2006/07 season he left Fenerbahçe on a free transfer and signed with league rivals Sivasspor , which he in turn left in the summer of 2007 for Galatasaray Istanbul .
On January 23, 2011 Çetin scored the first goal in the Turkish Telekom Arena in the league game against Sivasspor . In the 2011/12 season, the defender was rarely used because Tomas Ujfalusi and Semih Kaya had replaced him as regular players. At the end of the 2011/12 season, Çetin was Turkish champion for the second time at Galatasaray Istanbul. His contract expired on May 31, 2012 and was not renewed.
Çetin was associated with many top division clubs such as Bursaspor , Kasımpaşa Istanbul , Trabzonspor and Elazığspor in the 2012 transfer period . Despite numerous offers, Çetin came to an agreement with Eskişehirspor and signed a two-year contract here. For this club he played for the next two years. While he was set as a regular player in his first season, he was not used continuously in the second season. With Eskişehirspor he reached the Turkish Cup final in the 2013/14 season. In the final, his team lost to Çetin's previous Galatasaray. After his contract ended in summer 2014, he did not receive a contract extension from his club and had to leave the club.
After Çetin could not find an agreement on a contract extension with his contract in the summer of 2014, he moved to Mersin İdman Yurdu within the Süper Lig . Crucial to the change was the fact that Mersin İY was coached by Rıza Çalımbay . Çetin had already worked successfully with him at Denizlispor . After receiving his salary for a long time in the 2016/17 season, he left the club prematurely in February 2016.
In the national team
Çetin made 17 appearances in the Turkish U21s before making his senior national team debut in a friendly against the Czech Republic in April 2003 . This was followed by three more appearances at the FIFA Confederations Cup , but he was not used in the qualifying round for the European Championship in Portugal . Servet made his first international goal against Malta on September 8, 2007.
In 2008, during his participation with the Turkish national team in the European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland , the athlete was relieved of the permanent state university entrance examination in the team's training area on the day of the pre-group match between Turkey and the Czech Republic . During the Euro 2008 he also played almost all of his games injured in great pain, which earned him great respect from the fans.
Coaching career
After his career as a player, Çetin decided to pursue a career as a coach. As his first activity, he assisted the head coach Rıza Çalımbay as his assistant coach from 2016 and also accompanied him in the two subsequent coaching stations.
