Özgür Yankaya (born January 2, 1978 in Edirne ) is a Turkish football referee .

Career

Yankaya completed his referee examination in 1999 in his native Edirne . Şimşek made his debut as a referee in the Süper Lig on February 8, 2009; he led the meeting between Gaziantepspor and Ankaraspor .

Private

Before Yankaya started to referee, he played football himself for twelve years at PTT Spor , Edirne DSİ Spor and Istanbul Avcılarspor . After his soccer career, he attended a soccer coaching course and graduated with the B license . He coached a football club for two years and then decided to become a referee.

Yankaya successfully completed his studies at the Trakya University in Edirne in 2000 .

He also founded a bicycle club in Edirne and is chairman there.
