Tunceli ( Ottoman Dersim , Zazaisch Mamekiye , Kurdish Mamekî ) is the capital of the Turkish province of Tunceli in eastern Anatolia . The city is located about 580 kilometers (as the crow flies) east of the state capital Ankara . The village of Mameki used to stand here. The Alevi , Zaza majority of the population call their town the Zaza name of the Dersim region .

location

The provincial capital lies at the foot of a mountain and is surrounded on all sides by mountain ranges, which made the city difficult to access for many years.
About eight kilometers northwest of Tunceli begins the Munzur Vadisi National Park , the largest and first national park in Turkey. Tunceli is located at the confluence of the Pülümür Çayı in the Munzur Çayı . The Munzur Kültür ve Doğa Festivali (Munzur Culture and Nature Festival ) takes place in the city every summer . Numerous prominent guests appear on this occasion, who contribute with musical performances. The number of visitors to the festival sometimes exceeds 60,000.

history
