The Munzur Vadisi National Park ( Turkish Munzur Vadisi Millî Parkı ) is one of the largest and most biodiverse national parks in Turkey . It has an area of ​​420 km² and is located in Eastern Anatolia in the provinces of Tunceli and Erzincan . It includes the valley of the Munzur Çayı , a tributary of the Murat , and large parts of the Munzur Dağları . It was declared a national park on December 21, 1971. It was found that the national park is home to 1518 plant species. Of these, 227 are endemic to Turkey and 43 are endemic to the national park, e.g. B. the tunceli garlic Allium tuncelianum .

Common trees of the national park are beech , oak , willow , poplar , Walloons oak , maple , alder , birch , wild apple , wild pear , walnut and cedar . Common wildflower species include tulip , hyacinth , daffodil , common snowdrop , violet , real chamomile , fragrant goosefoot , anafatma , tragacanth, and wild thyme .

Endangered bird species that occur quite frequently in the national park are black storks , vultures , Egyptian vultures , griffon vulture , Caspian King chicken , snake eagle , golden eagle , buzzard , eastern imperial eagle , booted eagle , rock Accentor , Alpine Accentor , Wallcreeper , Alpendohle and snow sparrow .

The main mammals in the park are the dormouse , wolf , brown bear , otter , wildcat , Eurasian lynx , chamois and ibex . Other mammals in the park include wild hare, jackal, fox, weasel, stone marten, badger, wild boar, wild goat , mountain sheep, gray squirrel and hedgehog.

A rare fish in the national park is the red-spotted trout .

Further information

There are a number of caves in the national park, but so far no systematic exploration. There are also several sintered terraces and natural thermal baths. This shows that Tunceli has great potential for geothermal energy .

Two dams were built in Tunceli . Another seven dams are planned. If these dams are completed, most of the national park will sink into the floods of the reservoirs . The plans for the dams have already been completed. According to Section 23, Forest Act No. 6831 and the National Park Protection Act No. 2873, the construction of dams in these areas is an illegal practice.
