The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum ( BPBM or Museum of Natural and Cultural History of the State of Hawaii ) was founded in 1889 by Charles Reed Bishop (1822–1915) in honor of his late wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Paki (1831–1884), the last Descendant of the royal family of Kamehameha I. The museum was housed in the house that contained the collection of Hawaiian objects inherited from the princess.

It is located in the historic Kalihi district of Honolulu on the island of Oahu . In addition to the collections of Hawaiian pieces, the museum holds the third largest insect collection in the United States , comprising 13.5 million pieces. The Bishop Peak in Antarctica is named after the museum.
