Orhangazi is a town in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Bursa and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Bursa (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1986 . It is located on Lake Iznik ( İznik Gölü ), on the main road from Yalova to Gemlik . The place has been inhabited for around 6000 years. On the shores of Lake Iznik you can visit a prehistoric fishing village.

The mountains between Orhangazi and Gemlik are characterized by the extensive mining of white marble .

The namesake Orhan I. Gazi (1335) was Sultan of the Ottoman Empire in Bursa . A memorial was erected to him at the entrance to Orhangazi. According to the city logo, the place received the status of a Belediye in 1893.

Since a regional reform in 2013, the Ilçe (district) has been identical in area and population to the district town. The existing 6 mahalles (districts) of the former district town (Ilçe merkezi) were retained, while the mahalles of the other 4 municipalities were dissolved and these Belediye ( Çakırlı , Narlıca , Sölöz and Yenisölöz ) as well as the 20 villages ( Köy ) were converted into Mahalles. Thus the number of mahalles for this Ilçe rose to 30. Over time, the number of mahalles grew to 31 through the establishment of a new one.
