Mudanya is a small climatic health resort on the Marmara Sea in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Bursa and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Bursa (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1986 . According to the city logo, the place was raised to Belediye in 1919 .

The Greek name of the place is identical ( Greek Μουδανιά ).

Since a regional reform, the district is identical in terms of area and population to the district town.

Mudanya is connected to Istanbul , Turkey's largest city , by two ferry routes. The journey time with the high-speed catamaran is about 90 minutes.

history

During the First World War , Mudanya gained historical importance as the last place in what is now Turkey to be occupied by Allied occupation troops. Mudanya's most famous son and soldier, Şükrü Çavuş, played a major role in the Allied retreat. He also has the largest monument in the city, which was built directly on the harbor. In 1922, the Mudanya Armistice , which was a forerunner of the Treaty of Lausanne, was sealed in Mudanya . The Greek population was expelled or exchanged after the Greco-Turkish War from 1922 to 1923 and founded the city of Nea Moudania on the west coast of the Chalkidiki peninsula in what is now Greece .
