Düzce is the capital of the western Black Sea province of Düzce in Turkey and forms an independent district ( Merkez ). It covers about 28 percent of the provincial area and has no external borders with other provinces. The provincial capital Düzce is located in the middle of the Ankara - Istanbul route and benefits from the geographical location in between.

history
The city was partially badly damaged by earthquakes in the vicinity in 1944, 1957, 1967 and on August 17, 1999 , the earthquake of November 12, 1999 almost razed the city to the ground.
The earthquakes that struck the city on August 17 and November 12, 1999, left great damage: 980 people died, 81 percent of the entire housing stock and 87 percent of the entire commercial area were destroyed.
Düzce was declared the capital of the 81st province on December 9, 1999, shortly after the earthquake on November 12, 1999 by decree corresponding to Law (No. 584). Düzce used to belong to Bolu Province , now in the south. In addition to the problems of normal structural investments, the measures to establish the institutional infrastructure of a provincial capital began.
Administrative division
Düzce County consists of the following towns ( Belediye ):
- the district town of Düzce ( Merkez ) with 173,838 inhabitants and 56 Mahalle (districts)
- Beyköy (5,664 pop.) In 5 Mahalle
- Boğaziçi (2,969) in 6 malls
Furthermore, there are still 96 villages (with an average of 606 inhabitants per village). Seven of them have over 1,000 residents:
- Yörük (3,624)
- Aydinpinar (2,690)
- Doganlı (2,117)
- Yenitaşköprü (2,038)
- Gölörmani (1,970)
- Otluoğlu (1,753)
- Muncurlu (1,393)
Population development
The urban population of Düzce grew from 22,274 in 1965 to over 200,000 in 2008.
