Gölyaka is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Düzce . The place is located about 15 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Düzce and is home to 48.6 percent of the district's population .

The district is located in the southwest of the province. It borders on the Gümüşova County in the north, the Central County in the east, the Bolu Province in the south and the Sakarya Province in the west . From Gölyaka, a road leads north to the E-80 , which runs outside the circle. The city itself lies in the Düzce Ovası plain, to the south of which lies part of the Elmacık Dağı mountain range . In the northeast, the Melen Çayı River touches the district that flows into the Black Sea . In the east on the border lies the heavily marshy lake Efteni Gölü .

The district was founded in 1987 with Law 3392 and, in addition to the administrative center ( Merkez ), includes 21 villages, of which only one ( Hacıyakup , 1650) has more than 1,000 inhabitants. On average, each of these villages is inhabited by 498 people.
