Filiz Demirel (* 15. August 1964 in Düzce , actually Phyliss Demirel) is a German-Turkish politician of the party Alliance 90 / The Greens Hamburg and member of the Hamburg Parliament .

Professional and private

Demirel was born in Turkey and studied economics and business administration there . In 1990 she came to Germany. From 2007 to 2009 she worked as a project developer for the Entrepreneurs Without Borders association and from 2009 to 2013 she was the managing director of the Hamburg Quality Döner Association .

Political career

In 1994 she came to GAL, the regional association of the Greens in Hamburg, through the Green University Group . From 1997 to 2001 she worked in the field of integration and domestic politics as a research assistant for the GAL parliamentary group and from 2004 to 2007 she was managing director of the GAL parliamentary group in Altona. From March 2004 to February 2011 Demirel was a member of the Altona district assembly, where she was active in the areas of integration, business, and labor and social affairs.

In the 2011 mayor elections in Hamburg , she ran for the GAL in the Blankenese constituency and, in first place on the constituency list, managed to enter parliament directly with 2.9 percent of the vote. She has been a member of the Hamburg Parliament since March 7, 2011 . In the parliamentary group she is the specialist spokesperson for migration, anti-discrimination and religion.

In the 2015 mayor election , Demirel won a direct mandate in her constituency and is therefore a member of the 21st Hamburg Citizenship from March 2015 .

On February 23, 2020, Demirel again succeeded in entering the Hamburg parliament .
