Ayhan Akbin (born June 26, 1955 in Karabük ) is a former Turkish football player , coach and official. After spending his most successful time at Zonguldakspor , he was under contract with Galatasaray Istanbul from 1981 to 1984 . After his football career, he also worked for this club for a short time as a manager and club official. Occasionally he appears as a TV football expert and also writes football columns in print media. From 2013 to 2015 he held the office of President of the Association of Turkish Professional Football Players. In addition to his activities around Turkish football, he also drew attention to himself through his marriage to Miss Turkey in 1981, Aydan Şener .

Player career

society

The beginnings of Akbin's football career are undocumented. As a first recorded activity, he began to play for the first division MKE Ankaragücü from the 1974/75 season . With this club he played only two seasons in the 1st Lig and then in the 1976/77 season in the 2nd Futbol Ligi , the second highest Turkish division at the time. This season he reached the second division championship with his team and thus the direct return to the 1st Lig. After the promotion, his club could only hold one season in the 1st Lig and rose again in the summer of 1976 in the 2nd Lig.

Since his club Ankaragücü in the second division season 1978/79 missed the renewed direct recovery, Akbin was obliged in the summer of 1979 by the first division Zonguldakspor . Here he established himself as a regular player and top performer in a very short time. The season 1979/80 he ended with his team completely surprisingly on the 3rd place in the table and thus achieved the best first division placement in the club's history. Akbin was one of the most successful goal scorers of his team this season with six first division goals. In addition, with 19 goals conceded, his team was the team with the fewest goals conceded after the champions Trabzonspor . In the following season Akbins team remained in the league with the 7th place in the table behind the previous year's performance. Akbin himself scored ten league goals this season, making it the most scoring season of his career. He was again the most successful goal scorer of his team and one of the most successful goalscorer of the first division season 1980/81 . At the beginning of this season he was also a Turkish national player.

Due to his significant increases in performance at Zonguldakspor, Akbin also got into the transfer lists of the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş , Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe . Galatasaray reacted the quickest and agreed on a change with Akbin in May 1981. After about a month of transfer negotiations, the Istanbul team reached an agreement with Zonguldakspor on a transfer fee of 8 million Turkish Lira and the levy of midfielder Turgay İnal . After this agreement failed, the Istanbul Akbin only committed in early July 1981 for a transfer fee of 12 million lira.

Moved to Galatasaray, he quickly found the team and completed 23 of the 32 possible league games in his first season, scoring five goals. His club experienced one of the most difficult times in its club history and was faced with relegation until the end of the season. Despite the precarious situation in the league, Akbin's team managed to win the Turkish Cup and TSYD Istanbul Cup this season . In addition, his team won the Devlet Başkanlığı Cup . Although Akbin with his five league goals together with the playmaker Metin Yıldız was the most successful goalscorer of his team, he remained overall below expectations and was criticized for his low chance evaluation. Before the start of the pre-season preparatory camp for the 1982/83 season, he was suspended from the squad by head coach Özkan Sümer . He was loaned to the new first division club Kocaelispor for the 1982/83 season and then to the city and league rivals Karagümrük SK for the 1983/84 season. After Jupp Derwall had taken over the coaching position at Galatasaray in the summer of 1984 and there was a lack of strikers in the squad, Derwall kept Akbin in the squad for the upcoming season.

After he had completed only one league use for Galatasaray towards the middle of the first half of the 1984/85 season, he was given to his old club Zonguldakspor. Here he only played until the end of the season and then moved to Istanbul's second division club Üsküdar Anadolu 1908 SK .

National team

Akbin's national team career began in 1975 with a commitment for the Turkish U-21 national team . Five years later he was nominated for the first time and for the squad of the Turkish national team in a qualifying game of the 1982 World Cup against the Icelandic national team by national coach Sabri Kiraz and made his first and only A international debut in this game.

Overall, he completed one U-21 and one A international match.

Coaching career

Akbin looked after the Istanbul third division club Dikilitaş SK in 1992 for a period of two months . Before that he had acquired the necessary trainer license in a trainer seminar in 1990.
