İsa Ertürk (born July 17, 1955 in Ankara ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Ertürk achieved important successes with most of his clubs and is therefore regarded by some clubs and fan groups as one of the most important players in their club history. Through his many years of work for Adanaspor , he is most strongly associated with this association. During his playing days he was one of the most important playmakers in Turkish football.

Player career

The beginnings of Ertürk's football career are hardly documented. According to his own statements, he played in the western Turkish city of Eskişehir before joining the youth team of the second division Kütahyaspor as an amateur . In 1971 he began to play for the professional team Kütahyaspors. Since he also began to play for the Turkish U-18 national team here and was able to convince in the league despite his young age, he moved to the first division Altay Izmir after just one year . For this club he also only played for one season.

In the summer of 1973, he was hired by league rivals Adanaspor . Here he quickly rose to become a regular player and top performer. His first season with this club he finished in 7th place in the table, which was the best first division placement to date. In the next season, the season 1974/75 , the 4th place in the table was reached and thus the club's record was further expanded. Ertürk convinced as the playmaker of his team and contributed significantly to this success with teammates like Mehmet Akpınar and Reşit Kaynak . Through his performances this season, he rose to the Turkish U-21 international. This success was repeated in the following season. Ertürk increased his performance again, became the most successful goalscorer of his team with ten league goals and rose to the national team. With this 4th place, Ertürk's team qualified for the first time in the club's history with the UEFA Cup for a European cup competition. In this competition the tournament came out in the first round against the Austrian representative SV Austria Salzburg . Although Ertürk himself continued to show convincing performances and became a permanent national player, things did not go as expected for his team in the league. After the club had slipped into the relegation zone, they only managed to stay up on the last day of the game because of the better goal difference. In the following season, the team improved and at the end of the season repeated the club's record with 4th place in the table.

As one of the most sought-after players of the 1st Lig, Ertürk moved within the league to Zonguldakspor , another up-and-coming Anatolian club, in the summer of 1979 . At this club he formed a successful offensive trio with strikers Sinan Alayoğlu and Ömer Kaner . In the next, these two strikers lost their stakes to Ayhan Akbin and Reşit Koşar . With these strikers, Ertürk made a significant contribution to the fact that the club ended the season in 3rd place in the table and achieved the best first division placement in club history, which is still valid today.

After the successful last season, Fenerbahçe Istanbul tried to sign Ertürk. After the Istanbul team with Zonguldakspor were suitable for the transfer fee, Ertürk moved to Fenerbahçe in the summer of 1980. With the Istanbul team, he took part in the pre-season cup competition of the TSYD Istanbul Cup and was able to win this trophy. After the start of the season, despite the high level of competition within the squad, he immediately made it to the starting line-up at this club. At the end of the season he was together with Raşit Çetiner with six goals the most successful goalscorer of his club. The team itself experienced one of its weakest seasons, last played against relegation and achieved relegation on the last day of the game due to the better goal difference. In the next season, the team improved, played for the top of the table for a long time and finally ended the season in 3rd place in the table. During the course of the season, the Navy Cup was the only title to be won this season . Ertürk took part in his third season for the Blue-Yellows in the pre-season preparation camp, but was subsequently sorted out from the team by the new head coach Branko Stanković and put on the sales list.

After he was no longer wanted Fenerbahçe in the team squad, Ertürk moved to the first division newcomer Mersin İdman Yurdu before the start of the season . With this team he reached the final of the Turkish Football Cup for the first time in the club's history. In the final, the team lost to Ertürk's old employer Fenerbahçe. But since the club missed relegation in the league, Ertürk went with the team in the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi . Because the cup winners Fenerbahçe had also finished the season as Turkish champions, they took part in the European Champions Cup next season . As a cup finalist Mersin İY then took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup. Here the team failed in the first round to Spartak Varna .

After Mersin İY had missed the direct return to the 1st Lig in the summer of 1984 , Ertürk moved to his former club Altay Izmir for the coming season. For the western Turkish representative r played the two seasons consistently as a regular player and moved to the second division Konyaspor for the 1986/87 season . At this club, Ertürk established himself as a regular player and, as a playmaker, ensured that the club was in a head-to-head race for the second division championship with Sakaryaspor over the entire season . On the last day of the season Konyaspor ended the season level on points with Sakaryaspor, but due to the goal balance being three goals worse than runner-up and thus missed the longed-for promotion to the 1st Lig .

After the narrowly missed rise with Konyaspor, Ertürk moved to league rivals Zeytinburnuspor in the summer of 1987 . With the Istanbul team, he ran a race for the top of the table against his old club Konyaspor. At the end of the season he and his club had a five-point gap against Konyaspor and became runner-up. In the season 1988/89 he formed a very successful offensive trio together with the newly signed strikers Uğur Kiremitçi and Gürsel Hattat . At the end of the season, these three players with a total of 48 league goals contributed significantly to the fact that their team finished the season as champions with 85 points and a point difference of 19 points to second-placed Denizlispor . In this season, Ertürk and his team set a new league record in terms of goals and points and improved the previous record of Göztepe Izmir from the season 1977/78 .

After this season, Ertürk decided to end his footballing career. For this purpose, he organized a farewell game played on August 9, 1989 in the Inönü Stadium in which his last team Zeytinbunurspor played on Trabzonspor .

National team

Ertürk's national team career began during his time at Kütahyaspor with a U-18 international match against the U-18 selection of Yugoslavia . He played for this national team until 1973.

After drawing attention to himself at Adanaspor , he was nominated for the first time for the Turkish U-21 national team in 1975 . In the same year he completed all of his three U-21 internationals.

Ertürk was called up in a friendly against the Iraqi national team by the Turkish national coach Coşkun Özarı in the squad of the Turkish national team and made his international debut in this encounter. After this game he was one of the national players who were often nominated for three years.

His last international match was against the USSR national team on October 7, 1981 . In total, he played 14 times for the Turkish national team and scored one goal.

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career, Ertürk switched to coaching. As a first documented coaching activity, he trained from December 1990 until next summer for the third division İstanbulspor . He then coached a number of clubs in the TFF 1st Lig , TFF 2nd Lig and TFF 3rd Lig , but remained largely without any notable success.
