Career

society

Tello began his professional career at the Chilean club CF Universidad de Chile , where he made his professional debut on September 27, 1999 against league rivals CD Cobreloa . He developed quickly and stood out for his good performances. In 2000 he was voted the best midfielder in the country. Both in 1999 and 2000 he was able to win the Chilean championship with Universidad. In the meantime, European clubs also watched Tello and in January 2000 they were transferred to Portuguese top club Sporting Lisbon . Those responsible for Sporting transferred a sum of 7.5 million euros to his old employer for this change . For the next seven years he successfully wore the green and white jersey . After having difficulties in the new country at the beginning, he soon became the first choice. After some problems in defense, he was temporarily used as a left-back. In 2002 Tello celebrated the championship with Sporting. In the same year, the national cup, thus the double , was won, followed shortly afterwards by the Portuguese Super Cup. In 2006 he won the cup again. In the 2004/05 season, the team qualified for the final of the UEFA Cup via Rapid Vienna , the group stage (including Newcastle United ), Feyenoord Rotterdam , Middlesbrough FC , Newcastle United and AZ Alkmaar . In the final against CSKA Moscow , however, the team had to admit defeat 1: 3. Tello completed the full 90 minutes of the final game. On May 30, 2007, the midfielder finally moved to the Turkish top club Beşiktaş Istanbul on the Bosporus on a free transfer , where he received a three-year contract. In his second year with the Istanbul club, the club won the double. Then Tello was elected to the Süper Lig Team of the Year .

On July 20, 2010 it was announced that Tello was moving to Eskişehirspor. Here he quickly established himself as a regular player and top performer. After Ertuğrul Sağlam took over as coach from Eskişehirspor in the summer of 2013 , Tello lost his regular place and only played three league games until the winter break. In the spring of 2013, after mutual agreement with the club's management, he dissolved his contract and left the club.

After he had spent the second half of the 2013/14 season at Elazığspor , he moved to the 2014/15 season for the second division side Şanlıurfaspor . At the end of the season he left this club.

National team

Tello made his debut for the Chilean national team in 2000 against Honduras. In the following years he was appointed to the selection squad on an irregular basis. After a drink before the quarter-final of the Copa América 2007 against Brazil (1: 6) Tello was suspended by the Chilean Football Association for 20 international matches. After ten games and a fine, he was pardoned again. In May 2010, Tello was appointed to the squad for the 2010 World Cup by coach Marcelo Bielsa . There he came in the second half of the round of 16 against Brazil for his first and only appearance during the entire tournament. His team then dropped out of the competition.
