Michael Dale "Mike" Beebe (born December 28, 1946 in Amagon , Arkansas ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Between 2007 and 2015, he was governor of the state of Arkansas.

Early years

Beebe was born in Amagon, a small town in Jackson County . He was raised by his mother, a waitress; he did not get to know his father. During his childhood, they often changed places of residence (Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago, Houston and Alamogordo) before returning to Arkansas. In 1965 Beebe graduated from High School in Newport . He graduated from Arkansas State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts . He then worked as a lawyer. He gained a very good reputation as a criminal defense attorney.

Political career

Mike Beebe began his political career with a 20-year membership in the Arkansas Senate , where he sat between 1982 and 2002. In 2002 he became Attorney General of Arkansas, on November 7, 2006 he was elected with 55.3% of the vote as the successor of Mike Huckabee as the new governor of Arkansas, where he prevailed against the Republican Asa Hutchinson . He took up his new office on January 9, 2007. In 2010, Beebe was very clearly re-elected for a second term with 64.4% of the vote, although his party performed poorly in the national trend. For the gubernatorial election on November 4, 2014 , he did not run again due to the legal term limit. On January 13, 2015, he was replaced by Republican Asa Hutchinson, who had failed against Beebe in 2006.

Governor Beebe is married to Ginger Beebe and has three children.
